Sally Webb Berry, CSEP

Chief Executive Officer

Sally Webb Berry, CSEP is CEO of The Special Event Company with offices in North Carolina, USA and London, England. Sally founded TSEC in 1987 from a background in sports PR and marketing.

The Special Event Company delivers live communications through events and for a diverse clientele in education, financial services, technology, pharmaceuticals, media, manufacturing, sports and non-profits. Over the past three decades, Sally has produced events in over 25 countries throughout Europe, USA, Africa, South America and Asia.

The company has won over 40 international event management awards for their work. Her personal accolades include International Event Producer of the Year by Event Solutions Magazine in 2004, Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Special Events Society (ISES) in 2008, Business Leader Magazines Top 50 Women Extraordinaire Award in 2010 and Special Event Magazines Top 25 Greatest Industry Influencers of the past 25 years in 2011. In January 2013 she was the recipient of the Special Events Leadership Award for outstanding contributions to the Special Event Industry.

She is a regular lecturer in event management globally, speaking at numerous conferences and in many universities and is a founding member and former President of the International Special Events Society in the UK, before moving to the US in 2005.

Sally is a founding board member of Roger Daltrey & Pete Townshend’s The Who Cares: Teen Cancer America organization, and heads the initiative to bring Teen Cancer facilities to North Carolina.

She lives in Cary, NC with her husband Grant Berry, who is a professional caddie on the PGA Tour.


Susan Fishel, CPA

Chief Operating Officer

Susan joined The Special Event Company in July 2015 with 20+ years of diversified financial experience in accounting, business management, auditing, financial reporting, and analysis. As Chief Operating Officer, she provides leadership, management, and vision for the Company as our market continues to grow.

Susan began her career with KPMG Accounting Firm auditing many companies across diverse industries. Since then, she has held management positions in various markets with the most recent one being in the trade show industry. Susan brings enthusiasm and focus to the team and strives to help each team member be the best they can be.


Hunter S. Gray

Chief Strategy Officer & Creative Director

Hunter has more than 15 years’ experience providing a diverse group of clients with dynamic production solutions for live events, video and multimedia. He has served as Creative Director with The Special Event Company since 2010, where he oversees our clients’ live production needs. He was promoted to the joint position of Chief Strategy Officer and Creative Director in 2018 to further expand the Company’s development into a live-communications partner for custom productions across U.S. and international markets.

Hunter holds a B.A. degree in art history from Indiana University.


Zil Senczy, CPA

Accounting Manager

Zil Senczy began with The Special Event Company in May of 2017. As Accounting Manager, she oversees the day-to-day financial functions of the company. Her five years of experience in the accounting industry have provided her the opportunity to work within the areas of personal and business tax, sales tax, accounts payable, accounts receivable, strategic planning, and process improvement.

Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Zil relocated to North Carolina to attend Elon University, where she received her bachelors of Science in Accounting and her Bachelors of Science in Management. She enjoys spending her time doing acro yoga and relaxing with her two cats and German Shepherd.



Sara Ellis

Director of Program Operations

Sara Ellis has a background in business policy and procedure and more than seven years of experience in the event industry, including two with The Special Event Company. Ellis is responsible for preparing client and vendor contracts, maintaining and reconciling budgets, and developing program proposals. In addition to previous work with the company, she worked for four years in pharmaceutical meeting planning and nearly two years in charity events while traveling with the PGA Tour. Ellis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a native of Dunn, N.C.


Brady K. Miller, CSEP

Communications Manager

As Communications Manager, Brady K. Miller provides event communication vision, strategy, and execution, particularly in programming and interactive elements. With more than 13 years of event planning experience – most of it in the academic arena – he is also the Program Director for the Academic Event Professional conference, a program initiated and managed by The Special Event Company.

A Kansas native, Brady holds a bachelor’s degree from Truman State University and a master’s degree from Indiana University, where he wrote his thesis on the role of academic ceremonies in higher education. He is also an alumnus of The Protocol School of Washington. Brady is a frequent speaker on attendee engagement, creativity, event strategy, programming, and protocol.


Tracy L. Adams

Senior Program Manager

As Senior Program Manager, Tracy Adams takes pleasure in overseeing multiple logistical aspects of events and meetings. Her goal is to ensure the client’s vision and needs are thought through and executed to their satisfaction. Her background in customer service management and social/non-profit event planning boasts excellent communication skills, attention to detail and budget management experience.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Tracy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. Over her career, she’s worked for a wireless communications company, living in Illinois and Florida, and owned her own wedding planning business in North Carolina for 10 years. She is an active member in the International Live Events Society (ILEA), having served as a local chapter board member and president, and having served on an international committee.

Tracy met her husband in Florida and chose to make North Carolina their home. Together, they enjoy cooking, watching movies, traveling and most of all – music! Tracy is known for always having a song in her head and in her heart.


Amber Caudle, CMP, CSEP

Associate Director of Programs

Our Senior Program Manager, Amber Caudle, enjoys working closely with clients and vendors to design and manage various types of meetings and events. Her background in human resources and experience with academic events has provided her with strong customer service, budget management and organizational skills. Amber is passionate about the event industry and strives to provide each of our clients with a customized and unique experience.

Amber earned her Bachelor of Arts in English, with a concentration in professional writing, from Meredith College, and later completed the Event Development Program through Duke University Continuing Studies. She continues to pursue educational opportunities within the industry through her involvement with ILEA and MPI.

A North Carolina native, Amber enjoys camping and hiking, biking local greenways, and visiting any venue with live music. She is an active volunteer, serving as a coach with the Miracle League of the Triangle, and enjoys reading the classics in her spare time.


Whitney Freberg, CMP

Program Manager

As a Program Manager, Whitney Freberg oversees the planning and execution of meetings and events for our clients. Having started as a Program Coordinator assisting other Program Managers with the development and execution of various kinds of events has given her the background to plan exceptional corporate events.

Whitney was recently promoted from Senior Program Coordinator to Program Manager. She comes to The Special Event Company after having worked as an Assistant Meeting Planner planning federal meetings for a strategic consulting firm in Durham, NC after more than four years. Whitney completed the Event Development Course through Duke University Continuing Studies and subsequently received her Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification in 2016. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology with a concentration in Bioarchaeology from North Carolina State University in 2010.

A native of North Carolina, Whitney stays active with running and biking on area greenway trails, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends. In her spare time, she competes in and volunteers for triathlons and half marathons.


Jayne Regan

Program Manager

As Program Manager, Jayne Regan works closely with her clients to understand their requirements, and to develop and implement their vision and messaging throughout their events. Jayne has a passion for the event industry, and has extensive experience from her many years at a Fortune 500 corporation in development/project management and customer service, which helped her gain excellent communication, planning and organizational skills. Leveraging these skills, Jayne has planned and managed a variety of events, such as corporate conferences, non-profit fundraisers, press conferences, and grand openings to name a few.

Born and raised in Lexington, KY, she has a strong affinity for college basketball and horses, and attending college at Auburn University in Auburn, AL made her a college football fan too. Jayne earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Auburn University in Computer Science with a minor in Business, and also completed the “Event Development Program” through Duke University’s Continuing Studies.

Jayne also enjoys designing and making jewelry, working on various DIY projects around the house, and traveling to new places.


Alexandra Flentje

Program Coordinator

Alexandra Flentje joins the team as Program Coordinator. She has a background in event coordination working for an app start-up, for-profit community arts center and Fortune 500 company. She is dedicated to building relationships with clients and developing innovative events from concept to execution.

Alexandra earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing and Publishing from UNC Wilmington. She later completed the Event Development Program through Duke University Continuing Studies.

From a military family, Alexandra has lived all over the country--but she considers North Carolina home. She enjoys gardening, reading, attending concerts and traveling with her boyfriend.


Stacey Phillips

Client Relationship Manager and Stage Manager

Stacey Phillips utilizes her strong event planning background and her training in theatre and stage management to be a part of a team that produces impactful and successful events for clients.

She has worked in the event planning arena for the past seven years and takes great pleasure in having a job that allows her to be creative and to utilize her years of training in communications, advertising and graphic design, as well her experiences as an actress and stage manager. As a member of the Client Relationship team, she will focus on building new, long-term relationships, developing a client-centered model, and messaging our unique style of brand-centered event management.

Stacey enjoys spending time with her husband, two young daughters and Australian Shepherd. You can always catch her and her family in Chapel Hill to cheer on their Tar Heels!

Caroline Sewell

Event Designer

Caroline Sewell grew up enjoying the thrill of Mardi Gras in New Orleans and the pomp and circumstance of Washington, D.C., and always knew she wanted to be involved in this exciting industry. Caroline enjoyed 17 years as President/Owner of her own event planning company, designing and producing events for social and corporate clients. As Event Designer, she brings her passion for design and creativity to produce events with style and flair, never losing sight of the clients’ goals.

Through the years, Caroline has been involved by holding many positions at the local and international levels of ILEA (International Live Events Association) including president of her local chapter for 2 terms and serving four years as editor of the association section found in Special Events Magazine. She teaches “Event Design” and “Starting a Small Business” for the Duke Event Development Certification Program and welcomes any opportunity to encourage those interested in a career in the event industry. She holds a B.S in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech.

Caroline enjoys cooking and entertaining her friends. She loves spending time at the beach, attending live concerts and cheering for her Hokies!


Samantha Flood

Program Coordinator

Samantha is attracted to the overall flare, excitement and energy that comes with each live event. Her well rounded hospitality background in event planning, venue management, food & beverage, event design and rentals gives her a leg up on negotiating contracts, building relationships with clients and vendors as well as interpreting the vision the client is looking to develop. She has engineered hospitality programs from scratch to fully functioning profitable departments, has sat on the board of the local International Live Events Association (ILEA) for three years always looking to be an industry leader.

Samantha has had the opportunity to work with several Fortune 500 level companies to organize and create successful live events and interactive activation's for their teams. She loves to over impress our clients by bringing their vision to life better than they ever thought possible. She is interested in the trends and progression of events looking for the most innovative or unique way to create the clients perfect event come to life.

Originally from Massachusetts, she moved to San Diego and graduated from San Diego Mesa College with an associates and certificate in Hospitality & Event Management. She has recently moved to Raleigh, NC, and is extremely excited about all the wonderful opportunity this growing city has to offer to the hospitality industry.


Annette Lewis, CSEP

Program Manager

Annie began her event planning career in San Francisco in the mid-1990s where her clientele was comprised of Fortune 500 and Silicon Valley companies After working with Time Magazine International on their Olympic Hospitality program in Atlanta, Annie moved to San Diego and worked for Southern California’s premiere destination management company - The Meeting Manager (now 360 Destination Group) in both sales and operations.

A wish to raise her young children closer to family, prompted a move to the LakeNorman/Charlote area. Annie worked with Tribble Creative Group (now TCG Events) for several years just as Charlotte saw rise to great growth which brought many great event opportunities. These included opening events at major Charlotte landmarks, including Time Warner Cable Arena, celebrating major milestones for local companies and much more.

Following her time with TCG, Annie managed events at a race shop and did marketing for a production company.

After realizing that she truly loved the planning processing and managing events, Annie ventured out on her own while also contracting for larger event companies throughout the region. She enjoys the balance of working on events ranging from intimate retreats, meaningful awards programs and large festivals throughout the year.

Annie’s sharp attention to detail and ability to sort out the nuances of events of all sizes sets her apart. She focuses on the planning and execution for corporate, non-profit and association meeting and events. She is grateful for long term collaborations with a multitude of trusted partners while maximizing outcomes for all her clients and their audiences.

Annie became a Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) through the International Live Events Association in 2017. She is also an active member of the Charlotte hospitality industry and serves on the Board of Directors for the ILEA Charlotte Chapter.


Joy Matheny

Program Coordinator

Joy has a passion for the event industry that she can trace back to her pre-professional days. She has pursued event planning from the start, serving as a member of her university’s student government and an intern with the Charlotte Bobcats (now the Hornets). Joy enjoys seeing a detailed event come to life, where people grow and expand their network both personally and professionally.

A proud native of Cary, Joy is a graduate of Queens University of Charlotte where she studied corporate communication with a concentration in studio art. Prior to joining The Special Event Company, she worked for a private business and social club, where she planned and executed member events and managed the club’s marketing and communications efforts. Joy has also worked for golf courses in coastal North Carolina and South Carolina, and she has lived on the beautiful islands of St. John and St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, where she gained valuable experience in the hospitality and tourism industries.

Joy thrives on building meaningful relationships with our clients. She focuses on making the attendee experience at events both personal and meaningful. Over ten years of experience in the event planning industry has provided Joy with strong relationship, organizational and communication skills that transfer well to her Program Coordinator role.

In her free time, Joy enjoys a good country music concert, checking out the downtown Raleigh food scene, antiquing or day tripping to the beach.


Haley Gardner

Marketing Intern

As a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Haley is pursuing a degree in journalism with a concentration in public relations and a double major in public policy. Before working at the Special Event Company, Haley has held numerous public relations internships in the Triangle area. As a marketing intern, Haley hopes to promote the Special Event Company through social media, press releases, newsletters and more.


David Freeman

Accounting Intern

As a recent graduate from North Carolina State University, David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with a concentration in information systems and a double minor in economics and English. Working with the accounting and programing department, David is quickly learning the event industry and best business practices. In combination with his previous internship experiences, David brings a diverse skill set to the Special Event Company. In his free time, David is studying to become a CPA.


Grant Berry

Props Department

Though Grant Berry is a PGA Tour caddie by profession, he dedicates his spare time and creativity to The Special Event Company in our Props Department, helping to design and construct props and other needs for events.

Grant has been a PGA Tour caddie for over 30 years and has participated in the European, Australian, Asian and US PGA Tours for over 60 professional golfers including: Daniel Berger (present), Henrik Stenson, Carl Pettersson, Thomas Bjorn, Jesper Parnevik, Gordon Brand Jr., Howard Clark, Russell Claydon, Anders Forsbrand, Richard Johnson, Tom Gillis.
