Triangle Event Industry Professionals Unite with Support Alliance

Raleigh, NC (May 27, 2020): Hardships from COVID-19 have been felt across every business sector, and the world of meeting and event production has been hit with unprecedented and long-lasting force.

Leading event industry companies in the Triangle have united, utilizing over 450 years of combined experience, to create the TRIANGLE EVENT INDUSTRY ALLIANCE. The Alliance is a group support network, serving as an experienced resource for industry professionals, companies, legislators, and venues to use for advice and as a sounding board to navigate the road to recovery.

The Triangle Event Industry Alliance mission is to:

  • Provide solidarity for the regional event industry
  • Support each other through changes
  • Share resources
  • Educate on best practices
  • Disseminate global industry learnings
  • Collaborate on solutions for reopening events
  • Provide comment as Key Opinion Leaders
  • Offer experienced think-tank for the region’s event professionals, businesses, legislators, and venues
  • Promote ‘keep events local’ message

The primary ethos of meetings and events is to bring people together to share experiences and encounters. The screeching halt to this activity has brought an almost total shutdown of an entire industry sector and placed most of its workforce in limbo. The NC hotel and restaurant industry alone has over 370,000 unemployed workers, which will extend to well over half a million people in our region when the planners, producers, technicians, caterers, designers, rental companies, photographers, entertainers, trucking, etc. are added to the list.

Sally Webb, CSEP, spokesperson for the Alliance, said: ‘Virtual events are very much alive, and the new normal, however, they provide only a small amount of companies with limited cash-flow and very few individuals employed. Live events were one of the first out and will be last back in, as it is likely to be some considerable time until larger gatherings will be allowed.’

‘This group offers a much-needed resource for an industry with a significant number of small businesses and will enable us all to provide the best possible service when the industry returns to its full glory, as we are already a very close industry group. It’s strangely comforting to know you are not alone!’
