Meeting Management Company Welcomes Five Experienced Planners and Development Managers to Award-Winning Team
Cary, N.C. – The Special Event Company has announced the hiring of five new team members to its headquarters in Cary, NC. The ever-growing company welcomes Program Coordinators, Whitney Freberg, CMP and Jayne Regan, and Business Development Managers, Lana Calloway and Monica M. Smith, and Event Designer, Caroline Sewell.
Whitney Freberg, CMP
Whitney comes to The Special Event Company after having worked as an Assistant Meeting Planner at MDB, Inc., a strategic consulting firm in Durham, NC for more than four years. As a Program Coordinator, Freberg assists the program management team with the planning and execution of meetings and events. She recently completed the Event Development Course through Duke University Continuing Studies and subsequently received her Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) certification. Whitney earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology with a concentration in Bioarchaeology from North Carolina State University in 2010 and is a native of Raleigh, N.C.
Jayne Regan joins The Special Event Company after many years in development, project management, and customer support at a Fortune 500 corporation. As a Program Coordinator, Regan assists the program team with the planning, implementation, and management of client meetings and events. Regan earned her Bachelor of Science degree in computer science with a minor in business form Auburn University, and later completed the Event Development Course through Duke University Continuing Studies. She is a native of Lexington, Ky.
Lana Calloway joins The Special Event Company as a Business Development Manager after a 40-year career in the trade show and event industry. In her role, Calloway will coordinate special event, trade show, and convention connections at the local, national, and international levels. Calloway most recently served as President and owner of Exhibit Resources, an award-winning exhibit design and production agency in Raleigh, N.C., for 25 years. Exhibit Resources was one of the first WBENC certified, woman-owned exhibit companies and become a Certified B Corporation in 2013.
Over the years, Calloway has served in many leadership roles, including Chapter President of Greater Raleigh NAWBO, member of the Advisory Board for Enterprising Women Magazine, member of the Women’s Center of Wake County Board of Directors, and member of the Triangle Down Syndrome Network Board of Directors.
Monica M. Smith
Monica M. Smith joins The Special Event Company team as a Business Development Manager. Monica’s strong relationships with key decision makers, including owners of Fortune 500 firms and individuals seeking investment opportunities, enables her to successfully connect individuals who can mutually benefit from such introductions. With a stellar track record, Monica’s innate ability to read people and situations has supported her natural inclination to make those connections fruitful for all parties. Monica is a graduate of the University of Louisville.
Caroline joins The Special Event Company following 17 years as President/Owner of her own event planning company, where she designed and produced events for social and corporate clients. As Event Designer, she brings her passion for design and creativity to produce events with style and flair, never losing sight of the clients’ goals. Caroline has held various positions at the local and international levels of International Live Events Association (ILEA), including president of her local chapter for two terms and four years as editor of the association section of Special Events Magazine. She teaches “Event Design” and “Starting a Small Business” for the Duke Event Development Certification Program. Caroline holds a B.S in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech.
