The Special Event Company Hires Four New Employees

RALEIGH, N.C. – March 7, 2019 –  The Special Event Company has expanded its team and hired Samantha Flood, program coordinator; Joy Matheny, program coordinator; Haley Gardner, marketing intern; and David Freeman, accounting intern.

Originally from Massachusetts, Flood moved to San Diego and graduated from San Diego Mesa College with an associates degree and certificate in hospitality and event management. She has sat on the board of the local International Live Events Association (ILEA) for three years. Flood has had worked with Fortune 500 companies to organize and create successful live events and interactive activation’s for their teams.

Joining the team at TSEC has been such a great transition. My new co-workers have welcomed me with open arms and really made me feel a part of the team from day one,” Flood said. “I’m excited and feel grateful to be a part of a team always looking to better themselves and be ahead of the industry in education, trends and experiences.”

Matheny is a Cary native and a graduate of Queens University of Charlotte, where she studied corporate communication and studio art. Before joining The Special Event Company, she worked for a private business club, where she planned and executed member events and managed the Club’s marketing and communications efforts. Joy has also worked for golf courses in coastal North Carolina and South Carolina, and she has lived in the US Virgin Islands, where she worked in hospitality and tourism.

“The award-winning team here at TSEC is made up of strong, creative, passionate people boasting many years of experience and education,” Matheny said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the team, excited to learn from the best while growing my experience in the event industry and eager to leverage my relationships to provide our clients with innovate solutions to their event goals.“

Born and raised in Raleigh, Gardner is currently a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, double-majoring in public relations and public policy. Prior to joining The Special Event Company, Gardner has held four other communications internships in the Triangle area.

“I’m looking forward to promoting The Special Event Company through social media, press releases, newsletters and more,” Gardner said. “Everyone at The Special Event Company has been so helpful and enthusiastic, and I hope to learn a lot from my internship.”

As a recent graduate from North Carolina State University, Freeman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with a concentration in information systems and a double minor in economics and English. Working with the accounting and programming department, David is quickly learning the event industry and best business practices while studying for his CPA examinations.

“I’m really thrilled to be working with The Special Event Company,” Freeman said. “Being able to see how the business is run has really been a rewarding experience, especially while working for such a top tier company. Everybody has been incredibly welcoming and brings something different to the table.”
